Tuesday, November 27, 2007: Chester County Women's Commission Presented "Third Annual Women in Government:  We've Got the Vote..Let's  Get the Power,,,Let's Get Involved!" This event was hosted by West Chester University and featured keynote speaker Laurie Rofini, director of Chester County Archives and  Records , and a panel of prominent Chester County women who have made a difference in politics and government issues throughout their careers.  Panelists included State Representative Barbara McIlvaine Smith, Chester County Commissioner Carol Aichele, Westtown Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Carol DeWolf, MHCC Family Director Nelly Arevalo and attorney Jennifer Levy-Tatum.  Pictured below: WCU students enjoy refreshments before the program.

 

 

March 24, 2007CCWC Volunteers at 7th Annual GETT (Girls's Exploring Tomorrow's Technology)  Once again CCWC supported this event designed to introduced Chester County middle and high school girls to successful women role models and a variety of technology related careers. In keeping with the Commission's mkssion of empowering women and highlighting non-traditional careers for women, CCWC sponsored two young women at the Summer Career Academy.

 

March 21, 2007:  "We've Come a Long Way Baby, But Who Have We Left Behind?"

CCWC held this Networking and Awareness Event with Chester County Women's Business Groups and Nonprofit Organizations in honor of Women's History Month. Over 40 organizations were represented. The evening's program started with a presentation from the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls on the status of women in our community. We live in one of the most affluent areas of PA, yet there is still a tremendous need for social services for many of our women and children.  This event introduced the business women of our county to some of the local nonprofit organizations who strive to address the needs of the underserved. CCWC gave special recognition to three nonprofits who serve in the areas of Hunger:  The Lord's Pantry; Housing:  Good Works; and Economics:  Chester County Opportunities Industrialization Center.

 

November 16, 2006:  2nd Annual Women in Government

Once again held at the Chester County Historical Society, this popular program featured the Honorable Jacqueline Carroll Cody, Chester County Court of Common Pleas; Jessie Pincus, Board member West Chester School District; Carole Rubley, State Representative Delaware/Chester Counties; Michele Vaughn, Chair Democratic Committee of Chester County; Sheriff Carolyn Bunny Welsh.

May 7, 2006:  Ms. Art Festival 2006--Celebrating the Women Artists of Chester County

 

 CCWC held its first annual Ms Art Festival at the  Farmhouse at People's Light & Theater Company, Malvern, PA.  The event featured a live and silent auction of orginal art donated from female artists and artisans of Chester County. Auctioneer William Bunch donated his time and talents to help make the auction a success. Proceeds benefit the mission of the Chester County Womens Commission.

 

 March 22, 2006:  CCWC Third Annual Arts & Essay Competition: "Great Women of America" Awards Ceremony

Area elementary school students from 12 schools  participated in this competition in honor of Women's History Month with the theme "Great Women of America."   252 entries were received and displayed at the Chester County Art Association for judging. Sponsored by Graphic Impressions of America, Pepperidge Farm and Barnes & Noble, the awards ceremony was attended by the students and their proud families and friends.  Chester County Commissioner  Carol Aichele presented the certificates and prizes

 

March 25, 2006:  Girls Exploring Tomorrow's Technology (GETT)
Statistics continue to show that girls shy away from technology careers. As a result women are underrepresented in computer and other technology-related fields. GETT was a free, fun, informational event for Chester County middle and high school (girls in grades 6 - 12) and their parents to learn the facts about how technology careers can be fulfilling, fun and rewarding personally, professionally and financially.  CCWC supported this program by volunteering at this event and by offering a scholarship to a local middle school female student for a summer web design class.

 

November 30, 2005:  Women In Government

Guest speakers  Carol Aichele, County Commissioner; Sandra Moser, Jury Commissioner; Judy DiFillippo,Township Chairperson;  Paula Francisco Ott, President Judge; Barbara McIlvaine Smith, West Chester Borough Council and  Rachel Mullin,Chester County Planning Commission shared their experiences as women in government at a special program hosted by CCWC at the Chester County Historical Society.

Elinor Z. Taylor, PA State Representative, 156th District was presented with the "Pioneer Award" for her service to the community.

 

March 15, 2005 - CCWC Sponsored "Great Women of America," a writing and art competition

In honor of Women's History Month (March).  Over 500 youngsters in grades kindergarten through sixth grade throughout Chester County submitted art or essays in the 2005 Art and Writing Competition, "Great Women of America," sponsored by the Chester County Womens Commission (CCWC). This is the second year the competition has been held.

 

October 23, 2004 - Historic Roadside Marker Dedicated In Coatesville

The second in a series of historic roadside markers was dedicated on October 25, 2004 at the corner of Route 82 South and Rockeby Road, Coatesville, East Fallowfield Township, in honor of the late Ida Ella Ruth Jones, known as the "Grandma Moses of Chester County."  The CCWC partnered with local historian and artist Robyn Young, and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission on this project.
